The NABU and the SAPO have exposed an SBU employee for soliciting a $150,000 bribe
Detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and prosecutors from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have notified an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine that he is under suspicion of inducing a representative of a commercial enterprise to provide an unlawful benefit.
In exchange for the specified amount, the official promised to facilitate the return of funds seized by law enforcement during authorized searches and to ensure the complete closure of the criminal proceedings.
The large-scale corruption scheme began to unfold in May 2025, when law enforcement conducted investigative actions on the premises of a company in Zaporizhzhia.
During this search, law enforcement agencies seized a significant amount of cash, totaling over 6 million hryvnias.
In an effort to understand the situation and determine the legal grounds for such actions, the company’s director turned to an acquaintance for help.
The acquaintance, in turn, decided to obtain the necessary information through a current employee of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Instead of providing official explanations, the government official decided to exploit the situation for his own personal gain and offered to resolve the issue in exchange for a monetary reward.
Initially, during the negotiations, the discussion centered on returning to the business only half of the total amount seized during the searches.
Subsequently, the official’s demands grew, and he named a final sum of $150,000 as the illegal benefit.
In exchange for this money, the SBU officer guaranteed the full return of the seized millions and the final closure of the case.
