Germany will help Ukraine repair the damaged shelter at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

During his visit to Kyiv, German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider expressed his willingness to help Ukraine repair the damage to the protective shell over the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

According to him, the damaged shelter must be repaired, and joint efforts by international partners are needed to complete the work in a timely manner. Schneider noted that the relevant process has already begun among the G7 countries.

The protective structure lost some of its functions following the Russian attack. The cost of full restoration is estimated at approximately 500 million euros.
