A National Guard lieutenant colonel will stand trial for bribery and selling positions in the rear
The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Defense Affairs in the Eastern Region has filed an indictment with the court against a lieutenant colonel from one of the National Guard of Ukraine’s military units for abuse of influence.
The investigation established that in May 2026, the officer demanded and received $11,000 in illicit benefits in Kharkiv. In exchange for this sum, he promised to influence a decision by a panel of experts that would allow the servicemember to be discharged from service on medical grounds.
On May 
18, the accused was detained in a parking lot near a Kharkiv supermarket immediately after receiving the funds. The court ordered him to be held in pretrial detention with the option of posting bail in the amount of 499,200 hryvnias.
During the investigation, law enforcement uncovered another instance of his illegal activity. In January 2026, the lieutenant colonel promised, for 45,000 hryvnias, to influence the command to transfer a soldier to another unit.
In the Odesa region, more than 80 military personnel built a villa with a swimming pool for their commander.
In the Khmelnytskyi region, the former vice rector of a military academy, for whom subordinates built a summer home, will stand trial.
