The "Affordable Medicines" program will be expanded to include people with diabetes
The Cabinet of Ministers has expanded the “Affordable Medicines” program. Starting in September 2026, the program will include test strips for people with type 2 diabetes who are undergoing insulin therapy.
The Ministry of Health noted that previously, only patients with type 1 diabetes could receive test strips free of charge under the program.
To participate in the program, patients must consult a doctor, obtain an electronic prescription, and visit a pharmacy that has a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Health expects that expanding the program will make self-monitoring tools more accessible and help reduce the risk of complications in patients.

The “Affordable Medicines” state program has been expanded to include 260 additional brand-name medications. The new medications are intended for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and are now available to patients under the reimbursement program.
As Lyashko added, the nearest pharmacy can be found via the National Health Service of Ukraine’s (NSZU) dashboard, “Electronic Map of Locations Dispensing Medications via E-Prescription.”
