Listings for the legendary salt produced by the state-owned enterprise "Artemsil" have appeared on the OLX classifieds platform in Ukraine. Prices for the product range from 2,000 to 10,000 hryvnias. In particular, one package of salt was listed at a record price of 10,000 hryvnias, which is comparable to the price of a modern smartphone.
Salt from Soledar, where production has completely stopped due to the Russian occupation and hostilities, has become a true scarce rarity. You can buy a pack of the legendary salt online, but the prices are sky-high.
One listing states that a classic 1.5-kg paper package of rock salt is up for sale. The seller emphasizes that only one such scarce item remains in stock.
Despite the sky-high cost, which is equivalent to the price of a budget smartphone, the seller promises to donate the proceeds to charity and housing reconstruction.
The state-owned enterprise "Artemsil," located in the city of Soledar in the Donetsk region, supplied over 90% of the Ukrainian market’s needs and exported its products to dozens of countries. After the start of the full-scale invasion and the destruction of the enterprise by the occupiers, the company’s branded paper salt packets disappeared from store shelves, becoming a symbol of Ukrainian resilience and a collector’s item.
Another seller offers to purchase the product not individually, but in large batches—entire packaged blocks of 10 packs at a time. Here, a single pack of salt is priced at 2,950 UAH.
