Shmyhal Discussed Deepening Cooperation and Winter Preparations with the EBRD

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The parties discussed strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and the bank, as well as preparations for the upcoming heating season. Following the meeting, they reaffirmed their intentions to continue cooperation in the energy sector and infrastructure restoration.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.

During the meeting, the parties discussed ongoing energy projects as well as new areas of cooperation, primarily in preparation for the upcoming heating season.

"Priorities: protecting energy infrastructure, restoring generating capacity and substations, building equipment reserves, ensuring backup gas supply routes, and improving the reliability of gas storage facilities. Attention was paid to the specific needs of individual companies," noted Denys Shmyhal.

Issues related to European integration reforms were also discussed, particularly the implementation of best corporate practices in energy companies.

“We greatly appreciate the EBRD’s support and its willingness to continue our partnership!” Shmyhal added, thanking Odile Renaud-Basso.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Shmyhal thanked the EBRD for its continued support of Ukraine, particularly for its assistance in organizing the International Chernobyl Conference on Recovery and Nuclear Safety.

Shmyhal announced the construction of 1.3 GW of new generation capacity in Ukraine.

Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held an energy conference call with the government and regional administrations to prepare the country for the coming winter. Each region received clear tasks regarding the restoration of critical infrastructure and the implementation of alternative energy generation.

Ukraine continues to expand its participation in international security forums and is cooperating with countries under attack by the Iranian regime.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s massive attack on April 1 was a response to Ukraine’s initiative for a ceasefire on Easter.

On Wednesday, April 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held strategically important talks with key representatives of the U.S. administration—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
