Stubb announced two aid packages for Ukraine
Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced the preparation of two aid packages for Ukraine—to strengthen air defense and support the energy sector ahead of winter.
He made this statement following the “Ukraine–NB8” summit. Specifically, the “Winter Package” will include assistance for the power sector, particularly the supply of engines and turbines.
“As a pragmatic Finn,
I currently have three specific tasks (regarding aid to Ukraine—ed.). The first concerns air defense. We are preparing our next aid package, which will essentially cover some of Ukraine’s most critical needs. Second, winter is approaching, and, as you know, we in Finland also know a thing or two about winter. So there will be good news in the energy sector, especially regarding the electric power industry, particularly concerning engines and turbines that could come in handy,” said the Finnish leader.
Stubb identified defense cooperation as the third priority.
“We all know that this is primarily about defense. And here I am truly glad that I brought seven Finnish defense companies with me, which have already been able to begin closer cooperation with their Ukrainian counterparts,” said the Finnish president.
According to Stubb, at the summit, the allies agreed on the most effective ways to assist Ukraine, specifically the provision of air defense systems and drones.
As a reminder, while in Ukraine on August 23, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that our country is seeking pragmatic solutions to end the war, but Russia is blocking the negotiation process.
Ukraine and Finland have agreed to jointly produce weapons and military equipment for both our own needs and those of our European partners.
Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that the course of the war has been shifting in Ukraine’s favor for some time now, and new Western sanctions are expected to reinforce this trend.
