Water supply systems are being upgraded in 14 regions

Ukraine has begun implementing large-scale projects designed to make water supply systems more resilient to war, shelling, and power outages. In 14 regions, water mains are being modernized, new equipment is being installed, and backup water sources are being established.

The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development says these changes will help ensure a stable water supply for more than 10 million Ukrainians, even under difficult conditions. Currently, 29 major water supply projects are being implemented nationwide as part of the Resilience Plans.

They cover 14 regions of Ukraine. The main goal is to make the system more reliable so that it can continue to function even during attacks on critical infrastructure or prolonged power outages. To achieve this, the government is transitioning from a model where a community depends on a single water source to a system with backup water intake options and autonomous power supply.

As part of these projects, the government plans to build and modernize nearly 900 kilometers of water mains. The projects also call for the installation of more than 4,000 units of modern equipment. This will create more than 45 megawatts of additional power capacity for water utilities.

Special attention will be given to modernizing pumping equipment. Once upgraded, it will be able to pump three to four million cubic meters of water per day.

Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Recovery—Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba emphasized that the country is currently building a system capable of operating even under the most challenging conditions. “We are currently working on transitioning from a single-source water supply model to a model of a sustainable and redundant system. This involves protecting key facilities, creating backup water intake points, and developing autonomous water supply and backup power systems for water utilities,” he noted.

According to Kuleba, the development of a modern, energy-independent, and redundant water supply system is one of the main priorities of the government’s policy for the country’s recovery. Such projects should also help communities better prepare for the upcoming heating season and potential new challenges related to the war.

The Ministry of Development emphasizes that modernizing the water supply system is not only about upgrading infrastructure but also an important step toward enhancing the security and resilience of Ukrainian cities and communities. This was reported by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

Ukraine is preparing a large-scale pension reform that involves revising the mechanism for calculating benefits and increasing the minimum pension for certain categories of citizens to 6,000 hryvnias. At the same time, the government’s proposal calls for Ukrainians to take greater personal responsibility for shaping their future pension security.
