In Lviv, a man stabbed a police officer during a police operation; the court sentenced him to four years’ probation
The Lychakiv District Court of Lviv found Igor Sudnyk guilty of attacking a member of the Territorial Defense Forces and stabbing a police officer during emergency drills. Despite being sentenced to four years in prison, the man will not actually serve his sentence if he complies with the conditions of his probation.
The incident occurred on July 6, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Holynskyi Street in Lviv. While his documents were being checked, Sudnik began arguing with the military personnel and police officers, used profanity, and then kicked one of the soldiers in the chest.
Afterward, the man was placed in a police vehicle. There, he pulled out a knife and stabbed a police officer twice—in the shoulder and a finger. Experts determined that the officer sustained minor bodily injuries.
In court, the defendant pleaded guilty and confirmed the circumstances of the incident. He was found guilty of intentionally causing minor bodily injury to a law enforcement officer while the officer was performing his official duties, under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court sentenced Sudnyk to four years in prison but suspended the sentence, imposing a two-year probationary period.
The verdict may still be appealed within 30 days.
