Ukraine has received nearly $600 million from the World Bank for social benefits

On July 1, Ukraine’s state budget received approximately $600 million from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The funds will be used to finance social benefits for citizens.

"The funding includes $300 million backed by Japanese guarantees, as well as $298.75 million backed by bilateral guarantees from the British government. The total volume of the SPIRIT project is $880 million,” said Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

To receive these funds, the Ukrainian government has fulfilled all the necessary project conditions. It is reported that the funding will ensure payments for more than 1 million Ukrainians in need of state support.

The international aid will cover 18 different types of social benefits. Among them are:

  • assistance to families with children and to children with serious illnesses;
  • support for orphans in foster families and family-type children’s homes;
  • payments to people with disabilities and large families;
  • funding for “municipal nanny” services, childcare for children under one year of age, and the “eYasla” program.

The funds are intended exclusively for civilian purposes and cannot be used for military purposes, Svyrydenko concluded.
