Ukraine Will Strengthen Railway Security with New Systems
Ukraine will sign additional contracts for systems designed to strengthen the security of the railway and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities. This also includes border crossings and other key state logistics facilities. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the relevant decisions have already been made.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will sign additional contracts for systems to strengthen the protection of the railway. According to Zelenskyy, the meeting focused on the protection of critical infrastructure, the energy sector, and logistics. Special attention was paid to the railways, which remain a vital part of the country’s operations during the war. “I held a meeting today at the General Staff Headquarters—specifically on the protection of critical infrastructure, Ukraine’s energy sector, and logistics. A lot of attention was given to the railways. I want to specifically thank all our employees at Ukrzaliznytsia for their highly professional and courageous work,” the president said.
Zelenskyy noted that Russian troops consider the Ukrainian railway system one of their key targets for attacks. Due to the attacks, trains may be delayed, and certain railway infrastructure facilities are being damaged. Despite this, Ukrzaliznytsia continues to operate. The Ukrainian railway system maintains passenger and freight transportation and ensures the functioning of the country’s logistics system.
The president announced that new contracts will be signed to strengthen the protection of the railway infrastructure. “There will be additional contracts for systems that will strengthen the protection of the railways, border crossings, and other Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, and a decision on this has already been made,” Zelenskyy stated. This applies not only to the railroad tracks themselves. Additional security measures are also planned for border crossings and other Ukrzaliznytsia facilities that are critical for transportation.
State-owned banks may support logistics
Separately, during a conversation with the government, financial support for state logistics was discussed. According to Zelenskyy, he spoke with the prime minister and the finance minister about the possibility of involving state-owned banks in this effort.
The goal of this decision is to ensure the stable operation of logistics and to support it amid constant Russian attacks. “This is not an abstract issue—it’s the life of Ukraine,” the president emphasized. Zelenskyy also thanked the employees of Ukrzaliznytsia, who continue to work despite the attacks and damage to infrastructure.
Thus, Ukraine plans to simultaneously strengthen the physical protection of railway facilities and provide financial support for state logistics. The president has not yet disclosed the specific terms of the new contracts or the list of systems to be procured. The head of state announced this in an evening address following a meeting of the High Command.
