Ukrainian Symkovych was elected to the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture
Ukrainian candidate Anton Symkovych was elected to the UN Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture for the 2027–2030 term.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine congratulated him on his election. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga emphasized that the issue of preventing torture is of particular importance to Ukraine due to cases of cruel treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians who are being illegally detained by Russia.
According to Sibiga, Ukraine will continue to participate in international efforts to prevent torture, strengthen the protection of the rights of persons deprived of their liberty, and implement international human rights standards.
The minister also thanked the participating states for supporting the nomination of the Ukrainian expert.
