Ukrzaliznytsia has received railcars equipped with backup power supplies

Ukrzaliznytsia has added six new Ukrainian-made passenger cars to its fleet, which can operate even in the event of a power outage.

The cars are equipped with batteries that provide lighting, power for the restrooms, and air conditioning when the main power supply is cut off. This solution is particularly relevant given the Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

The backup batteries also allow these amenities to remain operational while the train is being pulled by a diesel locomotive. However, Ukrzaliznytsia has not specified how long the cars can operate autonomously.

The new cars also feature overhead shelves with tables. The manufacturer of the cars and the routes where they will be used have not yet been disclosed.

Ukrzaliznytsia is beginning to collect personal data when tickets are purchased.

As a reminder, Ukrzaliznytsia passengers can now order Ukrainian books when purchasing tickets for select international and domestic routes. The purchased book will be waiting for the passenger in the car at the start of the trip.

Ukrzaliznytsia has stopped paying mobilized employees their average monthly salary. Instead, the company has introduced a one-time financial assistance payment following mobilization and upon veterans’ return to work.
