Ukraine has developed the SHTORM-UA anti-personnel mine

UA NEWS 02 June 2026 16:59
Ukraine has developed the SHTORM-UA anti-personnel mine

The Ukrainian company Skylab has successfully tested a new directional anti-personnel mine, the "STORM-UA," designed to protect positions and halt enemy advances.

The main feature of the munition is its ability to direct the main force of the explosion in one specific direction, which significantly increases the effectiveness of target destruction

Engineers have already tested the device at a proving ground and demonstrated its performance.

The new defense development is designed to provide reliable cover for personnel on the front lines. Thanks to its design, the mine does not strike the enemy uniformly around itself but forms a clearly defined strike sector.

According to the developers, the munition’s fragments can effectively cover an area measuring 30×20×2 meters.

“STORM-UA is designed to reliably protect positions and effectively engage the enemy,” the company noted.

The warhead of the device is based on a powerful C-4 plastic explosive charge. Engineering solutions allow soldiers to quickly deploy the mine on any surface in field conditions.

In addition, the munition is extremely resistant to harsh weather conditions and reliably withstands temperature fluctuations ranging from -40°C to +50°C.

An important advantage of this weapon is its method of activation and safety for friendly forces. Upon detonation, the energy is not dispersed into the surrounding space but propels pre-formed metal fragments forward.

This allows for the creation of a dense stream of debris in a specified direction and minimizes risks to Ukrainian troops positioned behind the device.

“The main advantage is the operator’s full control. The barrier can remain active for an unlimited time, and detonation occurs exactly when necessary,” the company noted.

The Armed Forces can use these mines for a wide range of defensive tasks.

The main areas of application include reliable perimeter defense, long-term protection of fortified positions, as well as the rapid blocking of narrow passages or likely routes of enemy assault groups.

A fully controllable minefield allows for maximum flexibility in defense.

This was reported by Skylab’s press service.
