The Supreme Court upheld an 11-year prison sentence for a former judge from Dnipro on bribery charges
The Criminal Cassation Court of the Supreme Court upheld the sentence of A. Leonov, a former judge of the Babushkinsky District Court of Dnipropetrovsk, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison for accepting an unlawful benefit. The ruling is final and not subject to appeal.
The Supreme Court rejected the defense’s cassation appeal, upholding the position of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), and upheld the decisions of the High Anti-Corruption Court dated March 27, 2023, and the ruling of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court dated November 2, 2023.
The former judge was found guilty under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He was convicted of extorting 30,000 U.S. dollars and actually receiving 15,000 dollars in exchange for issuing a desired ruling in criminal proceedings. In addition to 11 years in prison, the sentence includes a three-year ban on holding the office of judge and the confiscation of all property belonging to him.
