Video: A BMW driver who fatally struck a cyclist while drunk was taken into custody in Kyiv
In Kyiv, a court imposed a preventive measure on a 27-year-old BMW driver who, according to the investigation, caused a fatal traffic accident on Boryspil Highway while under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody without the right to post bail.
According to the prosecutor’s office, while passing another vehicle, the driver veered onto the shoulder, where he struck a 17-year-old cyclist and his 44-year-old father. The car then crashed into a KIA Rio used for driving instruction.
The teenager died at the scene from his injuries; his father was hospitalized. During a breathalyzer test, the Drager device recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.32 per mille for the driver.
The man has been notified of the charges against him. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a driving ban of 5 to 10 years.
