Vitali Klitschko explained why his children are not fighting in Ukraine
Kyiv Mayor and former world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko explained why his children are not on the front lines. According to him, they were born in the United States and received their education in Europe or the United States, so they have never lived in Ukraine.
At the same time, Klitschko emphasized that he himself had lived abroad but voluntarily returned to Ukraine because he considers it his homeland. He also stated that he regularly visits the front lines.
During the conversation, the journalist relayed the words of Ukrainian soldiers who are asking why ordinary people are fighting on the front lines while the children of politicians remain abroad.
Klitschko replied: “Are you referring to my children? My children have never lived in Ukraine. They were born in the U.S. and studied in Europe or the U.S.”
When the journalist noted that the question about politicians’ children still remained, Klitschko pointed out that he himself had lived abroad at one time but had voluntarily returned to Ukraine.
According to him, he did so because this is where his roots lie.
The mayor of Kyiv also stated that he knows families whose children are fighting in the war and families where this is not the case. Therefore, in his opinion, one should not generalize such situations. Klitschko said that he visits the front lines every month.
Vitali Klitschko has three adult children: sons Yegor and Maksym, and daughter Yelyzaveta. His youngest son, Maksym, is a basketball player on the Ukrainian national team. He transferred to the East Carolina University team, which competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
