Influential Trump supporter Laura Loomer met with Zelenskyy — FT
Far-right activist and blogger Laura Loomer, who is said to be one of the people influencing U.S. President Donald Trump’s views, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Mariinsky Palace. The Financial Times noted that this meeting could have political significance due to her close ties to the U.S. leader and her influence over some of his supporters.
Lumer, one of President Donald Trump’s favorite bloggers, had until recently been telling her millions of followers that Ukraine is corrupt, does not deserve U.S. support, and is led by an “apologist for jihad.” However, she subsequently made a sharp shift in her stance—from harsh criticism of Kyiv to becoming one of Ukraine’s leading advocates within the MAGA movement, rejecting pro-Kremlin narratives and praising Ukraine’s resilience in the face of Russian aggression.
As the FT notes, this shift in Lumer’s stance is significant given her closeness to Trump and her popularity among the American far right, whose audience has traditionally been skeptical of U.S. support for Ukraine.
“Since the president appears to continue to heed her advice on all matters—from policy to personnel appointments—her change in stance on Ukraine and her public support could help shift opinion among the American far right,” the FT notes.
According to the publication, few activists who do not hold government positions have as much access to Trump as Lummer. This is likely what helped her establish contacts with high-ranking officials in Kyiv, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Serhiy Kyslytsya, first deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, met with Laura Lumer on Wednesday and gave her a tour of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. She also visited a McDonald’s restaurant in Kyiv that has been repeatedly targeted by Russian attacks.
Posing against the backdrop of buildings destroyed by Russian missiles, Lumer praised “Ukraine’s resilience,” which, she said, “remains unwavering.”
At the same time, it remains unclear what exactly prompted Lumer to make such a noticeable shift in her views.
“To those who are asking: no, the Ukrainian government did not pay for my trip to Ukraine,” she wrote on X.
As a reminder, earlier this week, Lumer arrived in Kyiv for the first time since the full-scale war began. She stated that she had previously lived in a “bubble of Russian propaganda,” and her visit to Ukraine, she said, was an attempt to understand the situation for herself.

As a reminder, the Office of the President stated that American blogger Laura Lummer’s visit to Ukraine was yet another example of how firsthand exposure to the realities of war helps change perspectives and break free from the influence of Russian propaganda. The blogger had previously publicly acknowledged that she had been mistaken in her assessments of Ukraine.
