Vučić was the only participant at the summit in Kyiv who did not sign the joint declaration in support of Ukraine

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić boasted that he was the only participant at the “Southeast Europe–Ukraine” summit in Kyiv who refused to sign the joint declaration. This document calls for continued comprehensive political, military, financial, and security support for Ukraine, as well as increased pressure on Russia.

The Serbian leader made this statement during a conversation with journalists from his country following the international meeting.

In the joint declaration, the other signatories strongly condemned Russia’s war against Ukraine, reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and called on the international community to further intensify sanctions against Moscow. Despite the general consensus among other regional leaders, the Serbian president pointedly emphasized that he was the only one who did not sign the document.

It is worth recalling that Aleksandar Vučić first visited Ukraine in June 2025. At that time, he participated in the previous “Ukraine–Southeast Europe” summit, which took place in Odesa.

Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that he plans to participate in the “Southeast Europe–Ukraine” summit and meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. At the same time, the Serbian leader acknowledged that participating in the meeting might not be straightforward due to the issues to be discussed, particularly regarding the upcoming joint declaration.

Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, began his official visit to Serbia with a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The parties discussed the situation in Ukraine, humanitarian cooperation, interparliamentary relations, and European integration.
