Zelenskyy announced the signing of the Drone Deal with Canada
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv expects to sign a major “Drone Deal” with Canada as early as the end of September. This is expected to take place during the UN General Assembly.
According to the president, on September 10, Ukraine and Canada took the first step toward concluding the “Drone Deal.” Initially, teams from both countries estimated that it would take about 90 days to finalize the agreement.
However, during the meeting, Mark Carney proposed speeding up the process.
“We signed the first part, and our teams reported that in 90 days we would be able to conclude the Drone Deal. Mark asked, ‘Can we do this in 9 days?’ and the teams immediately replied, ‘Yes, of course, that’s a great suggestion,’ and that is why I believe we need to hold meetings where we can achieve even greater results,” Zelenskyy said.
Thus, instead of the planned three months, the parties decided to try to finalize the agreement within a few weeks.
Zelenskyy noted that during his visit to Canada, both countries signed a document launching joint production of drones.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in turn, announced that Canada plans to ramp up drone production and will transfer one-third of the drones manufactured to Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine confirmed that Ukraine will receive 30% of the drones produced under this partnership.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Kyiv intends to finalize the “Drone Deal” as early as the end of September.
It is expected that the parties will be able to hold meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where Ukraine and Canada will have the opportunity to finalize the agreement.
The agreement is intended to continue the two countries’ cooperation in the field of drone production and to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Canada will allocate approximately 350 million Canadian dollars, or about $253 million, to purchase U.S.-made interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s air defense. Following talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Calgary, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Canada is ready to join the European missile defense program FREYJA. He noted that Canada will also provide Ukraine with interceptor missiles for air defense worth 350 million Canadian dollars.
Canada will provide Ukraine with more than $30 million for veteran rehabilitation and reintegration programs. The funds will be used to support Ukrainian defenders after they complete their service.
