Zelenskyy held a meeting following talks between Witkof and Kushner

On September 7, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the negotiating team to review the results of the meetings in Kyiv with U.S. Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The parties discussed Ukraine’s air defense needs and preparations for the “winter package.”

“A meeting with the negotiating team following our meetings in Kyiv with representatives of the U.S. President. (...) The most important thing is to continue working actively and jointly so that diplomacy can succeed,” he wrote.

Zelenskyy noted that the meeting focused on air defense needs, related technological cooperation, and the necessary “winter package.”

“Our partners know what can work and what must be in place by winter. We are coordinating next steps. We are preparing for upcoming meetings and communications. Ukraine’s proposals are constructive, and they always will be,” he noted.

The president also recalled that three rounds of talks took place yesterday with special representatives of the U.S. president. Representatives from France, Britain, and Germany were also present alongside the Ukrainian side.

“Separately, I spoke one-on-one with Steve and Jared yesterday to review the day’s results,” he added.

Talks took place in Kyiv between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. presidential representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The part of Donbas controlled by Ukraine remains a key obstacle and the main “red line” in the negotiation process aimed at ending the war. Despite the visit to Kyiv by U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner with updated peace proposals, differences regarding the future of this region remain fundamental. Zelenskyy told Witkoff that he would not cede any territory to Russia under any circumstances.

Following the meeting in Kyiv, Witkoff announced peace talks in a Ukraine-Europe-U.S. format.

In addition to issues regarding the cessation of hostilities and security guarantees, the parties discussed the country’s post-war recovery and the mobilization of resources for reconstruction, as well as economic guarantees designed to prevent the war from breaking out again.
