Zelenskyy acknowledged that Fedorov lost his position due to a conflict with Syrsky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the main reasons behind the decision to dismiss Mykhailo Fedorov from his post as defense minister. The primary factors leading to his impending resignation were differences with the military leadership over the conduct of the war, the failure of the TCC reform, and problems with defense procurement.
During a faction meeting, the head of state noted that Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi had different visions for waging the war, and that there was a systemic conflict between them. Zelenskyy said that both should have been dismissed, but that this was not possible. He added that Fedorov had failed to reform the TCC. The second reason cited was that the relevant ministry made procurements at its own discretion, rather than as requested by the General Staff and the military. In particular, this concerned the procurement of artillery shells.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing its own source in the “Servant of the People” parliamentary faction, as well as People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak has revealed the likely composition of the new Cabinet of Ministers, which may be headed by Serhiy Koretskyi. At the same time, a final decision on some of the candidates has not yet been made, particularly regarding Fedorov.
Zelenskyy had also previously stated that he had not yet made a decision regarding Fedorov’s future in the government.
