Drones attacked Bashkortostan's largest oil refinery complex
On the morning of August 13, drones attacked the “Gazprom Neftohim Salavat” oil refining and petrochemical complex in Bashkortostan. Smoke rose over the plant’s grounds following the attack.
Radii Khabirov, the acting head of Bashkortostan, confirmed the strike and reported that debris had fallen.
The circumstances of the attack and the possible consequences for the facility are currently being investigated.
“Gazprom Neftohim Salavat” is one of Russia’s largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes. The facility is located in the city of Salavat and is part of Russia’s Gazprom.
The complex combines oil refining with the production of petrochemical products. The facility manufactures:
- gasoline for automobiles;
- diesel fuel;
- fuel oil;
- polyethylene;
- ammonia;
- urea;
- other petrochemical products.
The design capacity of Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat is approximately 10 million metric tons of feedstock per year. However, actual processing volumes in recent years have been approximately 6.5–7 million metric tons per year.
Due to its wide range of production, the complex is of great importance to the Russian oil refining and petrochemical industries. Therefore, the consequences of the attack may depend on which specific facilities at the plant were damaged.

Prior to this, the Russian oil refinery “Orsknefteorgsintez” had suspended oil processing following an attack by Ukrainian drones on August 11.
