Defense Forces drones struck a Tu-142 and an Iskander in Taganrog
Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces announced that they had destroyed two Tu-142 aircraft and an Iskander tactical missile system at a military airfield in Taganrog, Russia. The strike was carried out on the night of May 30, according to Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
During the nighttime attack, Ukrainian drones struck the military airfield in Taganrog, where, according to the Unmanned Systems Forces, several key military targets of the Russian army were hit, including strategic aviation and a missile system.
As SBS Commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi reported, “SBS drones destroyed an Iskander and two Tu-142 aircraft at the military airfield in Taganrog, Russia, on the night of May 30,” emphasizing the effectiveness of the strike carried out by Ukrainian drones. According to military officials, the Tu-142 is a long-range anti-submarine aircraft based on a strategic bomber and used to carry out complex reconnaissance and combat missions over long distances, making it a vital component of Russian aviation.
It is also noted that an Iskander operational-tactical missile system, used to launch surface-to-surface missiles, was struck and, according to the command, was “taken down” at a position near Taganrog in the Rostov region.
The Unmanned Systems Forces emphasize that the strikes were carried out by drones from the 1st Separate Unmanned Systems Center, and that the list of targets hit may not be final, as the results of the operation are still being clarified.
The command also added an emotional comment regarding the consequences of the attack, noting that “the result was not limited to the list of targets outlined above,” hinting at additional damage on the facility’s grounds, the details of which are to be released later.
On the night of May 29, drones attacked fuel infrastructure facilities in Russia, resulting in fires at an oil depot in Armavir and at the port of Taganrog.
Over the past 24 hours, 291 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops, with the most intense fighting continuing in the Pokrovsk direction.
Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1,430 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian defenders also destroyed dozens of artillery systems, hundreds of vehicles, and nearly 1,800 drones.
