The General Staff confirmed that the Afip Oil Refinery and the Astrakhan Plant in Russia had been hit
The Ukrainian Defense Forces struck two Russian oil and gas industry facilities—the Afipsk oil refinery and the Astrakhan gas processing plant.
On the night of August 25, the Ukrainian military struck facilities at the Afip Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation.
A fire broke out on the plant’s grounds. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
The Afipsk Oil Refinery is one of the largest facilities in the region’s oil refining industry. Its design capacity is 6.25 million metric tons of crude oil per year.
The plant produces, among other things, diesel fuel and gasoline components used to supply Russian occupation forces.
In addition, Ukrainian forces confirmed the destruction of two U-272 gas separation units at the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant. The strike on these units took place on the night of August 24.
The facility is part of the Gazprom system and has a design capacity of up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas and approximately 7.3 million metric tons of gas condensate per year.
The plant produces:
- commercial natural gas and stable gas condensate;
- gasoline, diesel fuel, and fuel oil;
- liquefied hydrocarbon gases;
- industrial sulfur.
According to the General Staff, the plant’s products are used directly to supply the Russian Federation’s armed forces.
Technical sulfur is of particular importance, as it is a key raw material for the production of explosives.

An emergency occurred at the pyrolysis unit of the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia, which is one of the plant’s key facilities.
As a reminder, on the night of August 25, Ukrainian drones again attacked Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, specifically the Afipsk Oil Refinery. According to local authorities, a fire broke out on the refinery’s grounds following the attack, and at least 10 private homes were damaged.
