The death toll from the Russian attack in Kyiv has risen, and searches are underway for more people
At least 11 people were killed and more than 30 others were injured as a result of a massive Russian attack on Kyiv overnight. Rescue workers, police, and other emergency services continue to work at the sites of the strikes.
According to the minister, the Darnytskyi district of the capital was hardest hit by the Russian strikes, where part of a nine-story residential building was destroyed.
“Emergency services are working at the sites of the strikes resulting from last night’s Russian attack. Kyiv was hit hardest by the enemy strikes. Part of a nine-story building was destroyed in the Darnytskyi district. The State Emergency Service is currently working to rescue people from under the rubble,” Klymenko said.
The minister noted that 17 people have already been rescued from the site of the destroyed building, seven of whom were pulled from the rubble.
“At this location, we managed to rescue 17 people, seven of whom were freed from a deadly trap. Unfortunately, one person died. There are reports of people missing—we are searching for them. The search and rescue operation is ongoing,” he emphasized.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the necessary specialized equipment and experts have been deployed to address the aftermath of the attack, and the police are securing the sites of emergency rescue operations and the damaged buildings.
“The necessary specialists and specialized equipment have been deployed. The sites of the operations and the damaged buildings are under police guard. We ask for your understanding regarding the restrictions that have been put in place. At the operational headquarters that have been set up, police investigators are taking statements from victims,” Klymenko said.
In total, more than 20 residential buildings in Kyiv have been damaged as a result of Russian shelling, and rescue workers are operating at 15 locations.
As of now, 11 deaths have been confirmed in the capital, and more than 30 people have been injured.
“In the capital, 11 deaths and more than 30 injuries have been confirmed so far. Unfortunately, the number of victims will continue to rise. People continue to seek help,” the Minister of Internal Affairs concluded.
