China has responded to the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
In response to yet another massive shelling of Kyiv and attacks on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the Chinese government expressed support for peace talks and called on “all parties” to create conditions for resolving the conflict.
Official Beijing once again demonstrated its traditional diplomatic stance, avoiding direct condemnation of the aggressor country’s actions.
At the same time, it is worth noting that the Chinese Embassy in Ukraine is located just two kilometers from the Christian shrine damaged by the Russian strike.
This was stated by Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, at a special briefing.
The Chinese diplomat expressed the official view of the situation after foreign journalists asked him to comment on the destruction of the historic monument in Kyiv.
The representative of the foreign ministry emphasized the consistency of his country’s approach to events in Ukraine.
“On the issue of the ‘Ukrainian crisis,’ China’s position has been and remains consistent and clear,” Lin said in response to a request from Ukrinform to comment on the Russian shelling of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, one of the holiest sites in the Christian world.
The diplomat emphasized that his country sees a resolution to the situation exclusively at the negotiating table.
At the same time, the Chinese side traditionally uses its own terminology and attempts to shift responsibility for a ceasefire onto both sides.
Despite the massive destruction of UNESCO cultural heritage, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson called for an immediate de-escalation.
“China has always supported and continues to support peaceful dialogue and negotiations as the only viable path to ending the crisis and calls on all parties to make every effort to create conditions for a political settlement of the conflict,” the diplomat emphasized.
