The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is preparing a major strike on Russia’s budget
Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is scaling up efforts in economic confrontation with the aggressor, according to Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, reported by Ukrinform.
A new strategic priority for the ministry is blocking Russia’s “shadow fleet” — tankers used for illegal oil exports that bypass international sanctions.
According to Fedorov, Russia critically depends on crude oil exports, as revenues from these sales directly fund missile attacks on Ukraine. “Today, they launch missiles at Ukrainian territory directly from the assembly line. They need cash, which is why they increased crude oil exports,” he emphasized.
The aim of blocking these flows is to create a critical budget deficit in Russia and halt its military production.
The minister noted that Ukraine’s economic pressure strategy is already producing results, provoking a rise in Russia’s budget deficit. Coordinating efforts to block illegal tankers is intended to hit the “pain point” of the Russian economy, preventing the Kremlin from bypassing price limits and earning excessive profits from energy exports.
Earlier, Fedorov outlined three key points of Ukraine’s war plan and indicated that the Ministry of Defense is also working on comprehensive mobilization reforms.
