The detonation of ammunition in the village of Mila in the Bucha District of Kyiv Oblast marks the second such incident following the tragedy in Vyshneve. The investigation will determine why the explosives were being stored near people.
According to the president, the explosion in the village of Mila began after a Russian strike. The first hit struck the location where the ammunition was stored.
Zelenskyy called the situation “horrific negligence” on the part of those who placed the explosives near civilians.
“A horrific situation, horrific negligence on the part of those who stored explosives right next to people,” Zelenskyy said.
The president noted that following the incident in Vyshneve, this is already the second such crime, which is absolutely unacceptable.
According to Zelenskyy, the first strike hit Defense Forces depots where shells, mines, other ammunition, and drones were stored.
“A large-scale detonation of shells, mines, other ammunition, and drones began,” the president said.
He emphasized that the munitions should not have been stored in such a location near people, and that an investigation must determine all the circumstances surrounding their placement.
Zelenskyy stated that he had discussed the situation with the Prosecutor General, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“They have everything necessary for the investigation,” the head of state noted.
The President also expressed hope that the details and results of the investigation would be promptly presented to the public.
Separately, Zelenskyy thanked rescue workers, law enforcement officers, medical personnel, and everyone who is dealing with the aftermath of the Russian strikes and assisting the victims.
As a reminder, on the evening of August 28, Russian troops launched a drone strike on warehouses in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region. The strike caused a fire, accompanied by explosions and a massive detonation of ammunition.
