Russia is attacking Kyiv and the surrounding region with drones; air defense systems are operational
On the morning of September 2, Russian forces continued their attack on Ukraine using strike drones. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where air defense forces are operating.
Around 7:25 a.m., explosions were heard in the capital.
Prior to that, at 7:14 a.m., the Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning about a jet-powered UAV moving toward Kyiv past Kotsyubynske.
Enemy drones were also detected in other areas of the Kyiv region. In particular, there were reports of jet-powered drones moving toward Obukhiv and Brovary.
At 9:53 a.m., reports emerged of new explosions within the Kyiv region.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that air defense forces were operating in the region. Residents were urged to remain in shelters or other safe locations.
The attack continued. As of 10:34 a.m., air defense forces were also active in Kyiv. According to the mayor of the capital, air defense forces were operating on the city’s right bank.
The morning attack came amid a massive Russian shelling of Kyiv the previous night.
Eight people were killed as a result of that attack.
Due to regular Russian strikes, the city authorities are also preparing for challenging scenarios this coming winter, including a possible prolonged power outage in the city.
In Kyiv, lists are being compiled of residents who may need temporary shelter in the event of an emergency. This involves more than 200,000 people.
About 2,000 people have already given their preliminary consent to a possible temporary relocation.

On the night of September 2, Russia launched a massive strike against Ukraine using missiles and more than 170 drones. Air defense forces repelled the attack, during which the enemy used, among other things, “Iskander” and “Banderole” missiles.

Rescue workers extinguished fires in three warehouse facilities that broke out following a Russian attack on the Kyiv region. Firefighters put out the blazes at all three sites.
In Kyiv and several regions, an air raid alert was issued at 6:24 p.m. on September 1 due to the threat of Russian UAVs. The Ukrainian Air Force urged citizens to immediately seek shelter or follow the “two-wall rule” if safe buildings were not accessible.
Ukraine is conducting combat tests of at least four jet interceptors designed to counter Russian jet drones.
