Russia attacked Ukraine with 163 drones; air defense systems shot down 135 targets

Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down 135 of the 163 drones used by Russian forces to attack the country’s territory beginning on the evening of September 2. 

The air attack began at 6:00 p.m. on September 2. Russia deployed Shahed-type strike UAVs, including jet-powered models, S8000 “Banderole,” “Gerbera,” and “Parody” decoy drones.

The drones were launched from the directions of Millerovo, Orel, the temporarily occupied city of Donetsk, and Gvardeyskoye in Crimea.

According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 a.m. on September 3, Ukrainian air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 135 enemy drones.

To repel the air attack, the Ukrainian Defense Forces deployed aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups.

Despite the efforts of Ukrainian air defense, enemy strikes were recorded at 15 locations.

In addition, downed Russian drones and their debris were found at four locations.

Thus, Russia deployed 163 attack drones in a single night, 135 of which were neutralized by air defense forces. Information regarding the consequences of the attack and the number of enemy targets is being clarified.

On September 3, a man was injured in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region as a result of a Russian attack. It is known that one person was wounded by the enemy strike.

In the Khmelnytskyi region, a warehouse at one of the enterprises caught fire after debris from a downed Russian strike drone fell on it. The fire covered an area of 200 square meters, according to Serhiy Tyurin, head of the regional military administration.

Over the past day in the Mykolaiv region, 15 private homes were damaged as a result of attacks by Russian Shahed-type strike drones. A social services building and three cars were also damaged, according to Mykolaiv Regional State Administration Head Heorhiy Reshetilov.
