Russia is waiting to hear from the U.S. whether the Anchorage agreements on the transfer of Donbas are still in effect

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow is allegedly ready for a “political and diplomatic settlement” and to discuss new proposals regarding the war in Ukraine. However, she demanded that Washington first “clarify” the old agreements and the discussions surrounding them before moving on to any new initiatives. 

She asserts that before formulating new proposals, the U.S. side must clarify its position regarding the previous negotiating concepts agreed upon in Anchorage.

The statement was made in response to comments by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had previously emphasized that the approach proposed by Russia at the Anchorage summit had failed because it was unacceptable to Ukraine, and therefore called for new ideas. 

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that there is no new momentum in the dialogue on ending the war against Ukraine.
