Russia launched more than 1,550 drones and 62 missiles at Ukraine over the past week, according to Zelenskyy
Ukrainian emergency services continue to deal with the aftermath of the Russian strikes that took place overnight and in the morning on August 16. In Kyiv, the fires have already been extinguished, and emergency repair work is currently underway. In total, Russian troops have attacked 13 regions of Ukraine over the course of the week.
Six people were injured as a result of the attacks in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
Russian troops also launched ballistic missile strikes on Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih. According to the president, the Russians continue to deliberately target civilian infrastructure wherever their ballistic weapons can reach.
“Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih were also hit by ballistic missiles. Everywhere the Russians can reach with their ballistic weapons, they are striking civilian infrastructure. In Kryvyi Rih, two people were killed and another 14 were injured. One person was killed in Sumy,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, over the past week, the Russian army has launched the following against Ukrainian cities and communities:
- more than 1,550 attack drones;
- nearly 1,560 aerial bombs;
- 62 missiles.
A significant portion of the missiles were ballistic missiles of various types.
The President emphasized that Ukraine must strengthen the protection of its civilian population and critical infrastructure.
“We must protect lives. Russia must be stopped. New rounds of sanctions literally save lives and protect infrastructure every day. I thank every partner who is helping with this,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
Ukrainian emergency services continue to operate at the sites of Russian attacks, while emergency response teams are clearing up the aftermath of the strikes and restoring damaged infrastructure.
