Russia used a new version of the Gerber drone during its attacks on Ukraine
A new variant of the Russian "Gerber" multipurpose drone has been spotted in Ukraine. The first images of the upgraded drone have already appeared online.
Russian forces have likely begun using this upgraded version of the UAV during attacks on Ukrainian territory. Details regarding the new variant’s features are currently being clarified.
“A new version of the ‘Gerbera’ has appeared in the sky,” reported “Flash.”
He also noted that one of its main features—the drone’s considerable size—is visible to the naked eye.
“It is significantly larger than the standard model,” noted Zelenskyy’s adviser.
In addition, he called on Ukrainians who have the new version of the Russian drone to come forward.
According to Beskrestnov, it is extremely important to examine this drone to determine all of its characteristics.

What is known about the basic version of the “Gerbera”
It’s not just a kamikaze drone, but a multifunctional platform capable of performing various tasks.
The “Gerbera” appeared around 2024 as a low-cost alternative to the “Gerani-2” (the Russian version of the Shahed-136—ed.). It is significantly smaller, simpler to manufacture, and much cheaper.
The Russians’ main idea was simple:
not to waste expensive “Shaheds” on secondary tasks;
to create a drone that could be mass-produced.
The exact specifications are classified, but according to publicly available data:
length—about 2 meters;
wingspan—2.5 meters;
maximum weight—about 18 kg;
speed—up to 160 km/h;
range—approximately 300–600 km, depending on the configuration.
The airframe is made from very inexpensive materials: plywood, foam, and plastic parts.
One of the main objectives of the “Gerbera” is to overload Ukraine’s air defense system.
This warning was issued by Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, an advisor to the President of Ukraine, citing his post on Telegram.
Russia is using “Gerbera” drones as carriers for FPV drones: a new tactic for strikes and reconnaissance, according to the ISW.
In addition, in December 2024, Russian troops used ammunition containing hazardous chemicals against the Defense Forces on 434 occasions.
