Rutte warned that Russia remains a long-term threat to Europe

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia continues to pose a serious and long-term threat to Europe. According to him, Alliance countries must not underestimate these risks.

Rutte made these remarks during a joint press conference with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful.

The NATO chief noted that the Russian economy is heavily focused on the defense sector and preparations for war. That is why, in his view, European countries should view Russia as a long-term challenge.

“This is a long-term problem. It is a threat. We cannot be naive,” Rutte emphasized.

He also rejected the approach that the problem could be solved solely through negotiations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Separately, the NATO Secretary General stated that European members of the Alliance are becoming increasingly aware of the need to take greater responsibility for their own security.

“Security is not something the U.S. should do for us, but something they should do together with us,” Rutte emphasized.

NATO has confirmed that, under the program, Ukraine receives 75% of its Patriot missiles and 90% of its air defense ammunition funded by allies and partners.
