Russian drone attack on Ukraine claims nine lives — CBC World

In Kyiv, a Russian drone struck the Academy of Sciences building in the central part of the city, killing at least two people. The Russian Federation — an aggressor state — also attacked other Ukrainian cities with drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported nine deaths and more than 80 injuries as a result of strikes across the country. This was reported by CBC World.

Consequences of the strikes in Kyiv

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that 24 people were injured in several attacks on the capital, six of whom were hospitalized. Rescuers conducted search operations at the Academy of Sciences building, where they recovered the body of one of the victims from under the rubble. Officials also reported strikes on a pharmaceutical company, gas stations and a medical facility in Kyiv.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is having difficulties countering fast, high-altitude jet drones. Of the 120 drones that Russia launched at Ukraine, 90 were jet-powered, and their interception rate was 57%. The president noted that new interceptor drones are being actively tested, but they require further development to achieve sufficient effectiveness and large-scale deployment.

Dead and injured in other cities

In Dnipro, three people were killed in an attack on a business center. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi reported 19 injuries during the daytime strike on the facility. According to regional head Oleksandr Hanzha, the business center is located next to residential buildings, a park, a library and offices.

Another person was killed at the office of a logistics service in Synelnykove, southeast of Dnipro. In Zaporizhzhia, a strike on an infrastructure facility injured 32 people, emergency services reported. Civilian facilities, enterprises and communications infrastructure in other cities and regions also came under attack.
