Shtilerman explained how Wildberries and Ozon are linked to Russian banks
Analyst Stilerman stated that Ukraine should increase pressure on the Russian marketplaces Wildberries and Ozon. In his opinion, this could deal a serious blow to Russia’s financial system.
According to Stilerman, Wildberries is one of the largest borrowers in Russia, so operational problems at the company could cause difficulties for the banking sector and negatively impact a number of Russian banks.
"It seems to me that this is the set of measures that needs to be taken right now. We’ve really ramped up the pressure. Now that a tank of gas in Moscow costs 3.5 times more than it used to, and people in Moscow are forced to stand in several lines just to fill up their cars, that’s already something. Now we need to finish off Wildberries and Ozon—this is essential. It will lead to the collapse of the banking system; they are among the main borrowers,” he noted.
Shtilerman emphasized that Wildberries is the largest borrower in Russia, and if we take it down, it will inevitably lead to the collapse of a huge number of banks.
“At the very least, VTB has staked everything on Wildberries. They were counting on automatically acquiring Wildberries’ entire 50-million-strong customer base—and, I believe, Wildberries’ 60-million-strong customer base—as their own clients. VTB was already in a precarious position, and now trillions of rubles in loans will be irretrievably lost. And this could bring down Russia’s second-largest bank. And this must continue,” said the analyst.
Furthermore, as Shtilerman explained, this represents a disruption of the established way of life and the collapse of tens of thousands of businesses that, through their taxes, support the Russian Federation’s military and enable Moscow’s imperial ambitions. He emphasized that Wildberries and Ozon, in addition to their significant role in the Russian economy, played a key role in supplying the army.
