A court handed down sentences to the occupiers for the murder of a forensic expert and a tortured businessman in Izyum
A court found three Russian occupiers guilty of war crimes committed during the occupation of Izyum in the Kharkiv region. One Russian soldier was sentenced to life in prison, while two other militants from the so-called “LPR” were each sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, in May 2022, the Russian soldier shot and killed 70-year-old forensic expert Fedir Zdebskyi after he made pro-Ukrainian remarks. It was also established that, together with two militants, he kidnapped, tortured, and killed a 57-year-old local businessman, whose body was later found in a mass grave in Izyum.
The Prosecutor General’s Office stated that it disagrees with the 15-year prison sentence handed down to the two militants and is preparing an appeal, seeking life imprisonment for them.
