The New York Times reported a sharp increase in civilian casualties in Russia
The number of civilian deaths in Russia has risen significantly this year. According to The New York Times, at least 327 people were killed in shelling on Russian territory during the first seven months of 2026.
According to the publication, the rise in casualties is linked to Ukraine’s increasingly active use of drones and missiles to strike targets on Russian territory. Analysts note that such attacks have become significantly more frequent and cover a wider geographic area than before.
According to the Conflict Intelligence Team, 327 people were killed in Russia during the first seven months of this year as a result of shelling, drone attacks, and airstrikes outside the occupied territories. This figure significantly exceeds the 145 civilian deaths recorded by the group during the same period last year.
The organization also found that 2,366 people were wounded in strikes during this period this year, more than double last year’s figure.
