The Ilsky Oil Refinery caught fire in the Krasnodar Krai of the Russian Federation following a drone attack

In Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, a fire broke out at the Ilsk Oil Refinery on the night of September 26 following a drone attack.

According to local residents, the attack began around midnight. Eyewitnesses reported explosions and the activation of Russian air defense systems. After that, they said, a fire broke out on the refinery grounds.

At the same time, as noted in the report, information about an air raid alert did not appear until approximately two hours after the attack began.

Analysis of video footage released by eyewitnesses showed that the O. A. Shamar Ilsky Oil Refinery was on fire. The facility is located in the village of the same name in the Seversky District of the Krasnodar Region, approximately 50 kilometers from Krasnodar.

The Ilsky Oil Refinery has a capacity of about 6.6 million metric tons of crude oil per year. The facility operates six primary refining units.

The Ilsky Oil Refinery is one of the leading enterprises in the oil refining industry in southern Russia. According to the data provided, its products are used, in particular, to supply Russian troops.

Raw materials are delivered to the plant via Transneft’s pipeline system.

In the wake of the attack, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have allegedly shot down 645 drones over Russian regions on Friday night.

At the same time, reports of a fire at the Ilsky Oil Refinery and its causes are based on eyewitness accounts and OSINT analysis of publicly available footage.

As a reminder, the Perm oil refinery in Russia halted operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones on September 25. According to Reuters, a fire broke out at the facility, and pipelines, storage tanks, and processing units were damaged. It is not yet known when the refinery will be able to resume operations.

As of September 25, two other Russian oil refineries had suspended oil processing following drone attacks. These are the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in the Samara Region and the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant in the Rostov Region.
