The Kremlin responded to Zelenskyy's proposal to meet in Kostiantynivka

The Kremlin responded to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who invited Vladimir Putin to visit Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. The Russian side stated that it is ready to receive the Ukrainian president in Moscow, emphasizing that “the capital of Russia is Moscow, not Kostiantynivka.”

As a reminder, Russia announced the day before that it had captured the city of Kostiantynivka, a claim that Ukraine denies. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the Russian president could come to Kostiantynivka for peace talks if the city is indeed under Russian control.

“If Kostiantynivka is currently under Russian control, then Putin would likely have no problem meeting with me there and finding diplomatic solutions to finally end the war. But he still won’t cross the front lines: the truth is very different from what Putin says,” Zelenskyy said.

“If Mr. Zelenskyy is expressing his willingness to come to Russia in this way, we welcome that. But we want to remind you that President Putin has spoken of his willingness to receive him in Moscow. After all, the capital of the Russian Federation is Moscow, not Kostiantynivka,” Peskov replied.

This is according to reports in the Russian media.

As a reminder, Zelenskyy had proposed to Putin that they meet in Kostiantynivka.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, during which the parties discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, the situation on the front lines, and continued support for Ukraine.
