People online have been recalling Simonyan's comments about the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (video)
The Russian military's attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and the damage to the Assumption Cathedral sparked a wave of outrage online. Users recalled previous statements by Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan claiming that Moscow would allegedly not target Orthodox holy sites. The latest shelling of Kyiv has prompted criticism of such claims as part of Russian propaganda.
Social media users are actively recalling a statement by the Kremlin’s chief propagandist, Margarita Simonyan, who in December 2022 guaranteed the monastery’s safety.
It is known that in December 2022, RT channel head Margarita Simonyan confidently declared on air during one of the propaganda shows that the Russian army would allegedly never shell the historic center of the Ukrainian capital for religious reasons.
“We have a holy site in Kyiv, and Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) will never give the order to strike Kyiv and bomb the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. That is out of the question,” Simonyan asserted.
In addition, the propagandist cynically contrasted Kyiv with Western capitals, hinting at the Kremlin’s readiness to bomb other countries: “But, for example, we have no holy sites in Washington, none in London. And there are none in Berlin either.”
