The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected Russia's allegations that Ukraine allegedly attacked the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has officially rejected the Russian Federation’s allegations regarding an alleged Ukrainian attack on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The latest manipulative statements were released on May 30 by representatives of the Russian state corporation Rosatom.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called these actions a planned provocation by the enemy.

Ukrainian diplomats emphasize that Russian allegations traditionally lack sound logic and substantiated evidence. It is completely incomprehensible why Ukraine would strike its own strategic facility.

This nuclear power plant is located on Ukrainian territory, and the state is striving to return it to its lawful sovereign control as soon as possible.

“We view these statements as yet another information operation by the occupying state, aimed at diverting the international community’s attention from the only real source of nuclear danger at the Zaporizhzhia NPP—the illegal Russian occupation of the plant,” the statement reads.

Russian propaganda is trying again and again to push the absurd narrative that a country defending itself is allegedly attacking its own facilities.

At the same time, the state that has illegally occupied another country’s nuclear infrastructure is attempting to portray itself as its “defender.” The very fact that this claim must be repeated regularly is clear evidence of its complete absurdity and falsity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also noted a clear pattern in the emergence of such disinformation campaigns from Moscow. The Russian Federation launches a new wave of manipulation practically before every meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors.

The current provocation is taking place immediately ahead of the June session, where the Agency’s 2025 Annual Report will be considered.

Official Kyiv calls on international partners not to stand idly by and to demonstrate firm solidarity on the issue of nuclear safety. We must stop nuclear blackmail and force the aggressor to leave the territory of the Ukrainian plant.

The international community must impose real punitive measures against the Russian nuclear industry.

Defense forces have refuted Russia’s accusations regarding strikes on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

As a reminder, the IAEAwarns of an increased risk of a nuclear disaster.

The ZNPP has recorded its 15th blackout since the start of the occupation.

Earlier, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant resumed operations on Ukraine’s power grid after a one-and-a-half-hour interruption in external power supply.
