A military official also confirmed that North Korea is likely conducting internal preparations for a possible new deployment. At the same time, no movements indicating actual preparations to send troops have been recorded at the operational level.

Statements about possible reinforcement
Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia was preparing to deploy another 30,000 North Korean troops to the border area in the southwest to assist in the war against Ukraine. Last week, Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, rejected this statement, calling it unfounded.
According to the Defense Intelligence Agency’s assessment, since October 2024 North Korea has sent more than 16,000 troops to Russia; many of them are likely to have been killed or wounded. Intelligence also believes that Pyongyang has transferred more than 15 million artillery shells to Russia.
