Russia has imposed unofficial nighttime restrictions on vessel traffic in the port of Novorossiysk due to the threat of attacks by Ukrainian drones.

According to Reuters, the ban is in effect from midnight to 5:00 a.m., though the order was reportedly communicated verbally, without any official documentation.

According to the agency’s sources, the port continues to operate as usual during the day, and grain shipments have not yet been significantly affected. Novorossiysk is Russia’s largest port and accounts for about one-third of Russian grain exports; it is also used for transshipment of oil, metals, and container cargo.

Reuters notes that the restrictions were introduced following similar measures in the Azov Sea and Kerch Strait regions. Against this backdrop, September wheat futures on the Euronext exchange rose by 4.5%.
