In Sochi, on the grounds of Vladimir Putin’s “Bocharov Ruchey” residence, the old buildings have been completely demolished and new structures have been erected; according to satellite images, their total area significantly exceeds that of the previous complex.

Work has been ongoing since 2025 as part of a classified state defense contract awarded by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation under a contract for 2023–2027. The contractor is the “Transstroyinvest Group of Companies,” which is linked to developer Alexei Fomenko, a member of businessman Arkady Rotenberg’s inner circle. This same company built vacation homes for Vladimir Putin and FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov in occupied Crimea, and is also working on other projects in the annexed regions of Ukraine.

The total cost of the renovation has not been disclosed, but cost estimates for individual projects range from 90 million to 500 million rubles. Staff were recruited through social media and subjected to rigorous background checks by the Federal Security Service (FSB). Although Vladimir Putin visited the site only twice in 2025 due to fears of attacks by Ukrainian drones, construction continues, and a security zone covering more than three square kilometers is being established around the facility.

The German government stated that it shares Ukraine’s concerns regarding Russia’s claims of an alleged drone “attack” on the Russian president’s residence, which Moscow could use as a pretext for further escalation.

The Kremlin is already trying to reconcile the discrepancies in its statements regarding the alleged “attack” by Ukrainian drones on Vladimir Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region earlier this week.
