In Zaporizhzhia, public transportation will be protected with bulletproof film and new shelters
Zaporizhzhia authorities are stepping up security on public transportation amid regular Russian shelling. They plan to cover the windows of buses, trams, and trolleybuses with special bulletproof film, and install additional protective shelters near stops and in areas where large crowds gather.
According to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, industrial enterprises in the region will participate in the construction of the new shelters. He announced this proposal during a meeting with company representatives last week.
“Last Friday, I had a meeting with all the industrial enterprises in the region, during which I asked them to help build additional shelters near public transportation stops, at enterprise entrances, or in areas where large numbers of people gather. Almost all of them responded and have already begun work. The Red Cross will deliver 10 additional shelters this month and another 10 by the end of August,” he said.
The head of the Regional State Administration also reported that anti-drone nets continue to be installed in Zaporizhzhia. According to him, this system has already proven its effectiveness.
In particular, in the Kosmichny district of the city, a Russian drone struck an anti-drone net, which protected vehicles from damage.
An additional focus will be on providing extra protection for public transportation. The windows of buses, trams, and trolleybuses will be covered with a special bulletproof film. Currently, this film is already being used in hospitals, social welfare facilities, and administrative buildings.
“We are doing this to ensure that windows, which could shatter from a blast wave, do not injure residents,” Fedorov noted.
According to the official, this set of measures should help minimize the impact of Russian attacks on the civilian population and make it safer for people to be in public places.
