Russia's attacks on western Ukraine were carried out from Belarus — State Border Guard Service of Ukraine
Recent Russian drone strikes on the Rivne, Volyn, and Lviv regions were launched from Belarusian territory. According to Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Russian drones received signals via repeaters located on Belarusian territory.
Belarus continues to assist Russia in the war against Ukraine. In particular, the country’s territory was used to facilitate recent Russian drone strikes on western regions of Ukraine. Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, discussed this on television. According to him, these were attacks on the Rivne, Volyn, and Lviv regions. During these strikes, Russian drones received signals via special repeaters.
Such devices, Demchenko said, are located on Belarusian territory. They allowed Russian aircraft to maintain communication during flight. “We see that Belarus has not stopped supporting this terrorist state; because even these airstrikes, which targeted the Rivne, Volyn, and Lviv regions—all of this was also effectively facilitated from Belarusian territory,” stated the State Border Guard Service spokesperson.
Demchenko clarified that this specifically refers to the use of Belarusian territory for the operation of relay stations. At the same time, Ukrainian border guards have not detected any new large concentrations of Russian troops directly near the border with Ukraine on Belarusian territory. “Although, as before, we are not observing any buildup of strike forces near our border, in the immediate vicinity on Belarusian territory, the overall threat from Belarus remains,” Demchenko emphasized.
Thus, the absence of a significant strike force near the Ukrainian border does not mean that the Belarusian front has ceased to be a threat. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Belarus has effectively become one of the routes Moscow uses for military operations against Ukraine. Russian troops have used Belarusian territory to move military equipment, as well as to launch missiles and other weapons. Now, according to a representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Belarusian territory is also being used to operate relay stations that help Russian drones maintain their signal.
This poses an additional threat to Ukraine’s western regions. The Rivne, Volyn, and Lviv regions are located far from the main front line; however, due to the use of long-range drones and Belarus’s capabilities, Russian attacks could reach these regions as well. Ukrainian border guards continue to monitor the situation near the border. According to Demchenko, there are currently no signs of a large-scale buildup of Russian strike forces on Belarusian territory directly adjacent to Ukraine.
At the same time, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) emphasizes that the threat from Belarus remains. In particular, this is due to the possibility of its territory being used to support Russian attacks on Ukraine. SBGS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko spoke about this on television.
