Ukraine is preparing for the worst-case scenario regarding internet access due to Russian attacks
Ukraine is preparing for possible serious disruptions to internet service amid Russian strikes on data centers and telecommunications infrastructure. Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky stated that the government is working to maintain access to the internet and digital services.
According to the head of government, the issue of protecting data centers and mobile communications was discussed at a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters. “The threat extends across the entire infrastructure. It has existed, exists now, and will continue to exist until the war ends,” Koretskyi said.
The prime minister explained that the state is using several methods to protect digital infrastructure. Some equipment and systems can be housed underground, some data can be duplicated in cloud storage, and certain resources can be physically moved outside Ukraine.
According to him, these approaches can be used simultaneously. There is no single universal solution for all facilities, so the government assesses the risks for each specific system.
“Some things need to be underground, some in the cloud, some abroad, some a mix, and some—all three at the same time,” Koretsky explained. He added that when planning security measures, the state must base its decisions on the worst-case scenario and prepare contingency plans accordingly.
Earlier, Koretsky spoke about Ukraine’s preparations for the heating season.
Koretskyi also explained how Ukraine plans to cover its $27 billion budget deficit.
