A Ukrainian Mirage 2000-5F fighter jet shot down a Russian S8000 “Banderole” small-caliber cruise missile for the first time. The aircraft used its standard-issue aircraft cannon to engage the target.
Ukraine received the French Mirage 2000-5F fighter jets in 2025. The aircraft is armed with two 30-mm DEFA 554 cannons—each with an ammunition load of 125 rounds.
The “Banderol” is a Russian missile developed by the Kronstadt company. It can reach speeds of up to 650 km/h, and its stated range is 500 km.
Its warhead weighs over 114 kg, nearly half of which is explosive material.
